We are Lisa and Simon, and our various and great staff. We took over the Pilot Inn in 2011. We were runners up in the Pub of the Year poll in 2015. We are praised on Trip Advisor (the site where people really have visited us and speak from direct experience). So we must be doing something right.
We wanted to transform it into a place which was there for locals and for visitors alike. We wanted to serve modern British food, and all day, at that. We wanted a varied menu and a good children’s menu too. A warm welcome every day for all of our customers was a basic necessity. in 2015 we extended the floor space by adding another dining area and completely upgrading the rest rooms. A solid wood floor, warm featured brick walls and solid wood tables and chairs means a great space to eat, with up to ten place settings table combinations. Silver candelabras, and a wood burning stove set the atmosphere for a leisurely meal. Specials of the day, pies and soups of the day as well as our full standard menu, a great wine list and the full range of drinks from our well stocked bar complete the picture. Cask and local ales feature too. We have another traditional dining area, and the full menu is also available in the bar area too with its variety of seating. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and beer garden. In warmer weather we have a paved beer garden area, parasols and tables for our customers to enjoy, too and there is a car park too. Up to 2 hours free roadside parking is available as well. directly nearby and completely free parking less than 100 meters away.
Naturally we offer a children’s menu (scroll down to see it) too, and cater for vegetarian and vegan choices , as well as any other particular needs out diners may have.
Which is a pretty long-winded way of saying that we wanted to offer an updated version of the great British pub, to be enjoyed by all who come here. We have a great staff, front of house bar, serving and kitchen alike.
A major but not one which you would know from the outside is there, feature, is our rooms. We invested time and money to install three double bed and breakfast rooms which reviewers have likened to a boutique hotel in style. Heavy doors, drapes and soft furnishings with fully tiled en-suite large shower rooms, tea and coffee making facilities and a great breakfast get great reviews. Which is what we wanted to achieve. Visitors benefit from our excellent location being at the foot of the South Downs and a short walk to the sea, promenade, grassy areas and local Meads shops.
Further into town there are many attractions, including the bandstand. Our location is a key feature for our guests.
We enjoy what we do and we enjoy seeing our customers happy too.
Whilst we have made strides since we have been here, we are always interested in listening to what our customers have to say about how we do things.
